Manual starters are devices that are operated manually. These starters are extremely easy and straightforward to operate and do not require expert intervention. The starter includes a button (or rotary knob) which enables a user to turn the connected equipment on or off.
The buttons feature mechanical linkages, which make the contacts open or close, starting or stopping the motor. However, it's important to note that this type of starter does not break a control circuit during a power loss, which means the motor could restart automatically when the incoming voltage is restored. This could be a critical safety consideration in some applications.
When the engine is activated (either through stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component sends the charge to the vehicle's battery then into the starter motor.
The electrical current activates the starter motor, and a gear system called the starter drive or Bendix. Following this, the electrical charge engages the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine, initiating the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles.
Once the engine is running correctly, the mechanism disconnects the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
