Manual Starters Overview

Manual starters are simple, user-friendly devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. They feature a button or rotary knob that controls the connected equipment through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts to start or stop the motor.

Important Note: Manual starters do not break the control circuit during power loss, which means motors may restart automatically when power is restored. This requires careful consideration for safety-critical applications.

Starter Motor Operation

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The engaged starter motor then turns the engine's flywheel to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel engines.

Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
