When the engine is activated (either through stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transmits the charge from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor. The electrical current activates the starter motor and engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle's flywheel.
As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
