Manual Starters Overview

Manual starters are simple, manually-operated devices that provide straightforward operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that allows users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.

Starter Motor Operation

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system) to engage the flywheel.

The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process in both petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the electrical spark is no longer required.
