Manual Starters Overview

Manual starters are simple, user-friendly devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. They feature a button or rotary knob that mechanically opens or closes contacts to start or stop the motor.

Important Note: Manual starters don't break the control circuit during power loss, which means motors may restart automatically when power returns. This requires safety consideration in certain applications.

Starter Motor Operation

When the engine is activated (via start button or key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the battery to the starter motor, which engages the flywheel through a gear system (starter drive or Bendix). The motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles.

Once the engine is running, the starter motor automatically disengages from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires electrical assistance.
