Manual Starters

Manual starters are devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.

Important safety note: Manual starters don't break control circuits during power loss, meaning motors could restart automatically when voltage is restored.

Starter Motor Operation

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component:

  1. Channels power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor
  2. Activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system)
  3. Engages the vehicle's flywheel
  4. Cranks the engine to initiate combustion

Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark.
