Technical Information
How Starter Motors Work
When the engine is activated (either through a stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor. The electrical current activates the starter motor and engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are simple, user-operated devices that control motor operation through a button or rotary knob. These devices feature mechanical linkages that open or close contacts to start or stop the motor. Unlike automatic starters, manual versions do not interrupt the control circuit during power loss, which means the motor may restart automatically when power is restored - an important safety consideration for certain applications.
