When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The starter motor then engages the vehicle's flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles.
Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
