Manual Starters Overview

Manual starters are devices operated manually, offering simple operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.

Note: Manual starters do not break control circuits during power loss, which means motors could restart automatically when power is restored.

Starter Motor Operation

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers charge from the battery to the starter motor, activating both the motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The engaged flywheel cranks the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel.
